Revise less to do better at medical school. Yep, you read that right. This weeks study hack covers a valuable insight to help you study smarter not harder.
And for the MedEd vault, this one’s for the final year students. Find out the gossip on what your new F1 job is REALLY going to be like… see more below.
I hope you’ve all had a good weekend - for me I’ve been shooting content for my MedEd simulation start-up ARCTERA. We’ve had a weekend of taking 360-degree cameras to the wards and having a load of fun with patient actors and filming crew. I’ll be sure to chat all about it in a blog soon!
🙌 Study Hack of the Week: How to perform better in medical school exams by revising less. (7 mins)
Good news! Most of what you’re learning is a waste of your time! Hooray. Pareto advocates (like yours truly), would remind you that >80% of your exam performance will come from <20% of everything that you study at medical school. So how can you identify the core material to know in depth so you can revise less?

Congratulations to all of our final year medical students across the country who are well on their way to starting F1 this August!
Starting F1 is where instagram meets reality. Sorry to burst the bubble, but working in the healthcare system isn’t all dandy - unfortunately at some time or another, you’re likely to be faced with the real world problems of rota difficulties, working under toxic people and being responsible for too many patients than you can handle, to name a few examples.
This week’s MedEd vault addition is an awesome initiative to put these problems in the spotlight.
Pros:
Anonymous reviews of F1 jobs cross the country
Stratified by hospital and rotation
Simple rating system and undulterated testimonials
Cons:
Still in its infancy. If you’re outside the major teaching hospitals then you’ll probably only find a handful of reviews for your department until the resource grows.
Help us help each other! I strongly encourage you to fill in these anonymous surveys after you finish your rotations and that all of you guys consider this when you get around to starting F1! Pointing out the pros and cons will go some way in keeping working conditions safe and enjoyable.
👋Thats all for this week! See you in half a fortnights time.
